Lynx Power Way to Victory over Tigers

Defeat Sewanee 22-5

The Rhodes College baseball team closed out their final conference series of the year with a 22-5 victory over visiting Sewanee.  The Rhodes offense pounded out 19 hits, 11 of which went for extra bases as the Lynx pitching staff limited the Sewanee offense to just 6 hits.  Senior Charles Simmons picked up the victory for the Lynx, as he improved his season's record to 2-0.  Rhodes is now 25-14 (9-6).

Red-shirt freshman Brian Lainoff worked the first 3 innings allowing 3 hits, 4 runs, 2 walks, and struck out 1.  Junior Max Gertz pitched the fourth allowing 2 Sewanee hits, no runs, 1 walk, and struck out 2.  Senior Charles Simmons worked a perfect fifth inning en route to his second victory of the season.  Senior Evan Malone pitched the sixth inning, allowing 1 hit, 1 walk, 1 run, and struck out 1.  Sophomore Matt Ungashick finished out the game in the seventh allowing no runs or hits, as he struck out 1.

The Lynx offense had one of its most productive days of the season in their final home game of the year as they hit 2 homeruns, 6 triples, and 3 doubles.  Sophomore C Chris Conkell paced the Lynx offense going 3-4 with a homerun, 3 runs scored, and 2 RBIs.  Freshman CF Travis Perkins was 1-3 with a triple, scored twice, and drove in 3.  Senior 3B Mason Mosby was 2-3 with a double, 2 runs, 2 RBIs, got hit by a pitch, and stole a base.  Sophomore RF Brent Lindsey was 2-4 with a triple, 2 runs scored, and drove in 2.  Senior SS J.R. Bizzell was 2-3 with a triple, run scored and drove in 2.  Junior SS Brooks Royer was 2-2 with a double, run scored, and 3 RBIs.  Sophomore DH Austin Marcum was 2-2 with a triple, 2 runs scored, 2 RBIs, walked once, and got hit by a pitch.  Junior 2B Andy Boucher was 1-2 with a triple, scored twice, drove in 1, and got hit by a pitch.  Junior LF Brandon Valentine was 2-2 with a triple, 3 runs scored, drove in 1, and got hit by a pitch.  Sophomore CF Andy Meier was 1-2 with a homerun, scored a run, and drove in two.

Rhodes will return to action this Thursday in the SCAC tournament at 3:30 against Trinity University.
